What Is the AAPP?
The American Association of Police Polygraphists (AAPP) is a professional organisation dedicated to serving the needs of criminal justice and military polygraph examiners. Founded in 1977, the AAPP has approximately 1,500 members and is headquartered in Waynesville, Ohio.
Mission and Focus
The AAPP focuses specifically on the law enforcement and military sectors of the polygraph community, complementing the broader membership base of the American Polygraph Association. The organisation provides specialised training, professional development opportunities, and networking for examiners working in criminal investigations, security screening, and military intelligence applications.
Relationship to the APA
While the APA serves as the polygraph profession’s primary standards-setting body — establishing training requirements, ethical codes, and practice standards — the AAPP serves a complementary role by addressing the specific needs of government and law enforcement examiners. Many polygraph professionals maintain membership in both organisations. The AAPP hosts annual conferences and publishes resources specific to law enforcement polygraph applications.
