Welcome to British Polygraph Society official website
Our website exists to provide the members of BPS and the general public with expert, up to date information related to polygraph science and its practice. Our service is available to anyone who has an interest in the industry whether for personal or professional purposes.
Dedicated to establishing and maintaining the optimum standards of ethical and professional behaviour we set the bar high for membership. With integrity comes respectability and the BPS enjoys an enviable reputation within the UK polygraph sphere for these and many other qualities.
BPS Members
All members of the BPS are required to adhere to our strict Code of Ethics and high Standards of Practice. The morality, confidentiality, ethical and professional conduct of our members is not negotiable. Professionals who join our Society receive assistance in following our Code of Conduct and are committed to the veracity of truth in all that they do.
The BPS actively encourages members to develop their skills through continuous research, training, study and cooperation with professionals in the field. These aspects of development, including internship, are checked by us each year to allow members to maintain their membership of our Society.
Committed to the professional detection of deception, the BPS protects the public interest in the UK via research, education, discipline and ongoing training. This includes our member examiners completing coursework spanning hundreds of hours at a recognised accredited training facility.

At the British Polygraph Society, we are committed to advancing the science of truth and maintaining the trust of the public and our members. Explore our website to learn more about our work, standards, and how we can assist you.

The British Polygraph Society (BPS) is a professional and independent polygraph association in the UK, dedicated to upholding the ethical integrity of polygraph science and testing.
Our society attracts highly trained, qualified, and accredited polygraph examiners, professionals in the deception detection industry, and private individuals with an interest in truth verification.
All our members are committed to delivering reliable and accurate polygraph examinations while adhering to the highest ethical, professional, and moral standards. As the only association offering approved advanced training, we ensure our members remain at the forefront of the field.

UK Polygraph Association NEWS
Verify Your Examiner’s Credentials
We strongly advise the public to verify the credentials of any polygraph examiner before booking a test. Many individuals who were expelled from the British Polygraph Association (BPA) due to not meeting professional standards now operate independently in the private market, misleading clients about their expertise.
As a professional and independent polygraph association, the British Polygraph Society (BPS) upholds the highest ethical and scientific standards in polygraph testing. Our members are rigorously trained, accredited, and committed to ethical practice.
Before scheduling a polygraph examination, ensure that your examiner is a qualified and accredited professional. Choosing an unverified examiner could compromise the accuracy and integrity of your test. Always request proof of certification and verify their membership with a recognized polygraph association.

Introduction
The BPS Psychophysiological Detection of Deception Terminology Reference is based on the American Polygraph Association’s (APA) Terminology Reference, 4th Edition (2022), authored by Donald Krapohl, Mark Handler, and Michael Lynch. While the APA’s work provided the foundation, it does not reflect their official position. Over time, the BPS has adapted and edited this resource to align with UK standards and advancements in polygraph science. Our reference ensures clarity, consistency, and professionalism in the field, reflecting the BPS’s commitment to excellence in psychophysiological detection of deception.
