Type of question used to elicit responses that are compared with the responses to relevant questions. There are two main types: directed lie (DLC) and probable lie (PLC). Subtypes for the DLC are trivial and personal. The PLC they are exclusive (exclusionary), and non-exclusive (inclusive). Historically called the control question, comparative response question, and emotional standard. See Waller (2001).
