An experimental methodology was used to determine whether a physiologic responding was elicited by the stimulus question or an untruthful answer. It was experimentally demonstrated that the physiological arousal was more closely tied to the stimulus presentation than the act of giving the deceptive answer. The DAT has not been used in field PDD examinations. See Dawson (1980).
